Last regular season game before Christmas is Saturday 21st December. Season resumes Saturday 25 Jan 25.
No one likes games being cancelled, but inevitably some games will be distrupted by Weather.
Wellington is a geographically diverse region as such Cricket Wellington has 'spotters' across the region to help with decisions to cancel games or not.
Cricket Wellington is the primary 'source of truth' if games are to go ahead if the weather is 'not conducive to cricket'. They will post updates on their Facebook page usually between 7 - 730am on game day.
Club convenors will notify coaches also to ensure they are aware. They will communicate to their team.
Unfortunately, it is possible that you may not get notified before you have left home (if you have an early game in Wainui or Eastbourne etc). But in general you will be notified ASAP.
If the weather is 'touch and go' or there has been a lot of rain in the lead up rather than cancel it will be determined that 'coaches call' will determine if the game goes ahead or not.
Ideally the home coach should make an assessment of local conditions (considering factors like weather, ground conditions and player safety) and contact the opposition coach to give their assessment and collectively make the decision to play or not. Contact details of all coaches will be available by season start from Cricket Wellington.
We know players get disappointed when they can't have a hit with their mates, so the club makes the Indoor centre available on game day Saturday mornings for players to still have a hit around. Time slots will be advised by convenors closer to season start. The Indoor centre is also available in the event of a bye game or default etc. Coaches and Convenors will encourage players to make the most of every game day regardless of the weather!
